August 20, 2009 – EULUMDAT and Absolute Photometry

Photometric measurements of solid-state lighting (SSL) fixtures must be performed using absolute photometry, as it is not possible to remove the light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and measure their luminous flux output separately as is done with relative photometry. This presents a problem for lighting fixture manufacturers using the EULUMDAT photometric data file format, as the EULUMDAT file format specification does not explicitly support absolute photometric measurements.

Working with Lighting Analysts Inc. and DIAL GmbH, byHeart Consultants has developed an interpretation of the EULUMDAT file format specification that supports absolute photometry. As such, it is fully compatible with all existing EULUMDAT data files and existing lighting design software.

The revised EULUMDAT file format specification is available here.
